Works fine, but the game is around 40-50FPS, it goes to 60FPS when playing the games. Perfect but Sound skipping/overlapping during menus every few minutes, Vectorman has the same issues as well. Sonic R (Sonic Gems version) on Dolphin R6091 ![]() This title has been tested on the environments listed below:Īlmost perfect emulation of Sonic R (glitches on sides of video are due to Widescreen hack). However, compatibility may extend to prior revisions or compatibility gaps may exist within ranges indicated as compatible due to limited testing. Now we just need a final Sonic collection that features Knuckles Chaotix, the arcade's Segasonic the Hedgehog, and the rest of the Game Gear titles.Compatibility can be assumed to align with the indicated revisions. Still, the game's low price tag ($29.99) is easily worth it for Sonic CD alone. The rest are merely passable and are only of interest to the hardcore crowd. The only games that truly hold up today are Sonic CD and the Vectorman titles. Taken as a whole, Sonic Gems Collection is definitely a weaker package than Sonic Mega Collection. Sonic buffs will appreciate the sheer amount of artwork available that encompasses just about every Sonic title from the original up through Sonic Heroes. Of course, there are also plenty of bonus items to unlock in the form of hints, music remixes, artwork, and videos. version to avoid a T rating, but the company should have just taken the rating and given its fans what they want. The Genesis beat-'em-ups are classics and are sorely missed here. The Japanese version of Gems not only features the Vectorman games, but also all three Streets of Rage titles. gamers have gotten the shaft when it comes to the bonus games. I feel obliged to mention, however, that U.S. Although neither of these games have anything to do with the Sonic series (they're not even developed by Sonic Team), they are fantastic platformers, and deserve to be played again. This time, it's the two Vectorman titles that appeared on Genesis. Like Mega Collection, Gems contains a couple unlockable bonus games. Sonic the Fighters looks more fun than it is. Instead, we have this random assortment of games - why Sonic 2, but no Sonic? Why Sonic Drift 2, but no Sonic Drift? Why Spinball at all? The Genesis version isn't any good, and the portable one is even worse. Surely, SEGA could have fit six more Game Gear games on the disc. ![]() It's nice to have them playable from the start, but one has to wonder where the other six titles went. These games (along with six others) were previously available on Sonic Adventure DX, but only as unlockable bonuses. Handheld Hedgehog Filling out the collection is a selection of six Game Gear titles: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Spinball, Sonic Drift 2, Tails' Sky Patrol, and Tails Adventures. There's a multiplayer race mode as well, but like the single player experience, it's not an awful lot of fun. Still despite the lackluster gameplay, Sonic R boasts a fantastic (if not bizarre) soundtrack that features songs with some of the cheesiest and most hilarious lyrics that you've ever heard in a videogame. It's a concept that works better in theory than in practice. You'll want to lead your racer off the beaten track to search for shortcuts and items to collect, but still perform well enough to place first in the race. R is an on foot racing title that plays a bit like Mario Kart with extra exploration bits added. The final "main" game in the collection is Sonic R, which debuted on the Saturn. Still, it's nice to see this game get its long overdue home release, if only for collectors. Even the multiplayer isn't terribly fun considering the lack of depth in the fighting system. It's fun to play for a bit just to check out how the characters look in low-poly 3D and to see their cartoony moves, but you'll probably tire of it before you reach the final boss. Unfortunately, Fighters isn't a very advanced game - it's rather like a simplified version of the original Virtua Fighter. arcades, but never saw a home release (despite a rumored Saturn port in Japan). Fighting game fans and gaming history buffs will appreciate the inclusion of Sonic the Fighters, which got a very limited distribution in U.S. ![]()
